BBB Secure Your ID Day is a public education and community service event aimed at preventing identity theft. On Saturday, Oct. 19, BBBs across North America will host BBB Secure Your ID Day, including events on Oahu. Everyone is invited to take advantage of free on-site document, CD and floppy disk destruction, cell phone recycling, and practical tips to avoid identity theft.
Access Information Management will accept up to two boxes of paper, CDs and floppy disks that contain information you don’t want in the hands of identity thieves. Paper documents should be removed from binders, but staples and paper clips can be shredded.
This year, BBB Secure Your ID Day includes free, safe and secure cell phone recycling courtesy of Verizon Wireless. Pacific Corporate Solutions will also be on hand to accept old laptops, CPU's, and servers for secure hard drive destruction.
The cell phones collected will be refurbished and donated to victims of domestic violence through Verizon's Hope Line. Verizon Wireless will remove all user content from the phones turned in, but consumers are encouraged to remove their own data prior to disposal.
Hawaii’s BBB staff and First Hawaiian Bank volunteers will also be on-site to provide advice and tips for identity theft protection.
